Coating System & Failure Diagnosis
General educational framework only. A site-specific failure can have multiple causes and may require an experienced applicator or technical professional.
1. Identify the substrate
Wall/plaster, concrete, metal, wood or another substrate changes the appropriate preparation and coating system.
2. Identify the failure
Peeling, blistering, cracking, chalking, cissing, poor adhesion, efflorescence or colour/finish problems need different investigation.
3. Check moisture and contamination
Moisture, salts, dust, oil, loose material and incompatible old coatings can affect adhesion and durability.
4. Review the previous system
Identify old primer/topcoat, preparation and whether the new coating is compatible.
5. Rebuild the correct system
Preparation → repair/filler where applicable → primer/sealer → finish, using the exact manufacturer's current instructions.
6. Verify before application
Confirm exact product identity, current technical document, surface suitability, application method and curing requirements.
