Types of Texture Finishes
Stone Texture: Mimics natural stone surfaces like sandstone, slate, or granite. Applied as a thick paste and textured with tools to create realistic stone patterns. Available in natural earth tones and contemporary colours. Provides excellent hide for wall imperfections. Popular for exterior feature walls and living room accents. Coverage: 15-25 sq.ft./kg.
Metallic Finish: Contains metallic pigments that create a shimmering, reflective surface. Royale Glitz from Asian Paints is the most popular metallic finish in India. Available in gold, silver, copper, and bronze tones. Creates a luxurious, high-end look perfect for accent walls. Price: Rs. 800-1500 per litre.
Crackle Effect: Creates an aged, vintage look with deliberate cracking patterns in the topcoat. Two coats are applied with a cracking medium between them, causing the top layer to crack artistically. Popular for accent walls in living rooms and restaurants.
Swirl and Canvas: Applied with specialized tools to create circular, swirling, or canvas-like patterns. These subtle textures add visual interest without being overwhelming. Good for full-room application or large wall areas. Berger offers several popular swirl textures in their designer range.
Scrape and Dune: Created by applying texture paste and then scraping it partially off to reveal underlying colour and create dune-like patterns. These organic, flowing textures work well in contemporary and minimalist interiors.
Application Guide
Texture finishes require skilled application. Surface preparation is critical — walls must be perfectly smooth with putty and primer before texture application. Most textures are applied with trowels, textured rollers, or specialized tools. Each texture type has specific application techniques that require practice.
