Crack repair and filling is one of the most technically demanding services we provide at Islamia Paints & Decor, and it requires expertise that goes well beyond simply applying filler over a visible crack. Kolkata's buildings — whether modern high-rises in New Town and Rajarhat or older homes in Ballygunge, Bhawanipore, and Park Circus — develop cracks for a variety of reasons: structural settlement, thermal expansion and contraction, moisture movement, vibration from nearby construction, and the natural ageing of building materials. Our crack repair service begins with a thorough diagnosis of the crack type and its underlying cause. Hairline cracks on plaster surfaces are treated with flexible polymer-modified crack fillers from Dr. Fixit, Berger, and Sika that can accommodate minor movement without re-cracking. Medium cracks that extend through the plaster layer are repaired using a combination of V-grooving (widening the crack into a V-shape for better filler adhesion), application of a bonding coat, and filling with fibre-reinforced crack filler. For wider structural cracks that may indicate foundation movement, we use a more comprehensive approach involving epoxy injection (where a low-viscosity epoxy resin is injected deep into the crack to restore structural integrity), followed by surface repair with a reinforcing mesh and multiple coats of plaster and putty. We also provide expansion joint treatment for cracks that occur at the junction of different materials — such as where a concrete column meets a brick wall, or where a RCC slab meets a masonry wall. These joints are fitted with flexible polyurethane sealants or special joint tapes that absorb differential movement. For exterior cracks on building facades, we apply weather-resistant elastomeric coatings over the repaired area to prevent water ingress during Kolkata's heavy monsoon season.
